Gorayeb appoints veteran Jov Gonzaga as captain of SEA Games-bound PH team

NATIONAL coach Roger Gorayeb has confirmed that Jovelyn Gonzaga will skipper the Philippine women's volleyball team that will compete in the Southeast Asian Games in Singapore on June.
The veteran mentor said it was a no brainer to hand the captaincy to Gonzaga, a former MVP in the Shakey's V-League and a vital cog in Philippine Army's dominance in the Philippine Super Liga.

"Pinili ko na si Jov, hindi naman na dapat pag-isipan pa yun," Gorayeb told Spin.ph during the team practice on Thursday afternoon.

"Actually kahit sino naman dyan sa team pwede pero si Jov na ang pinili ko," he added.
Gorayeb also had a ready answer when asked why Alyssa Valdez, who incidentally is the country's flag bearer in the opening parade of the Singapore Games, was not named captain.

"Si Alyssa ang dami na iniisip niyan, ang dami na responsibilidad," he said. "Magdadala pa ng flag 'yan."

The team composed of Gonzaga, Valdez, Jaja Santigo, Dindin Santiago-Manabat, Rachel Anne Daquis, Aby Maraño, Maika Ortiz, Rhea Dimaculangan, Jia Morado, Bea de Leon, Gretcel Soltones and  Denden Lazaro will fly to Singapore on June 4.
