AAK Davao bags 7 medals in Milo Open in Malaysia

THE seven-member Association for the Advancement of Karatedo (AAK-Davao karatekas collected a total of two golds, two silvers and three bronzes in the 16th Malaysian Milo Open Karatedo Championships in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on May 17.
Karatekas Jam Ramirez, Darlene Maramara and John Paul Ponce joined forces to clinch the 13-15 years old mix team gold in kata while Atsuko Kaiyel Tan bagged the girls five years old kata gold and silver in six to seven years old kata.
Pavel Jarvis Bacayo also took a silver in men's 68 kilograms kumite while Jam Ramirez salvaged a cadet boys kata bronze medal.
Maramara, for his part, added two more bronzes in cadet girls kata and cadet girls - 47 kilograms kumite.
AAK Davao team was also composed of Sofia Agullo, Emmanuel Bayugo along with team managers Jay Ramirez and Edgar Ponce.
AAK Davao chief Rommel Tan, on his Facebook posts, said 980 participants from 21 international and 40 local teams competed in the tournament.
"Congrats guys! I'm so proud of you!!! To God be the glory!" Tan told his players on through his Facebook status posted on May 17.
Karateka Gabriel Quinones, also the 2014 So Kim Cheng 2014 male athlete of the year, was sidelined by an injury while fellow champion player Carmela Marie Estarija was tight with her academics, thus, they were not able to join the team.
Last year, a six-member AAK Davao team brought home five golds, two silvers and two bronzes.(KRP)
