Athlete's Profile: Caleb Stuart

Named "Man Mountain", Caleb Stuart is ready to get the gold medal in the upcoming Games.
24-year old Caleb Stuart is part of the Philippines’ latest arsenal to fuel the country’s quest for track & field gold medals at the 28th SEA Games in Singapore. Aptly named “Man Mountain”, the towering Stuart, who stands at 1.8m and weighs 133kg, is considered one of the most formidable throwers to ever represent the Philippines.

Despite being a native of California, Stuart found himself eligible to represent Philippines thanks to his Filipina mother, with his sister also a fixture in the Philippines softball team. In fact, it was Filipino softball coach Randy Dizer who noticed Stuart’s accomplishments and highlighted his potential to the Philippines Track and Field association. Although his personal best records were insufficient to win gold medals in America, Stuart could easily win the gold medal in Southeast Asian competitions.
Stuart’s main event is the hammer throw, where he possesses a personal best record of 68.66m, set in March 2015. This distance is more than six metres clear of the current SEA Games record of 62.23m set by Thailand’s Tantiphong Phetchaiya.
Stuart also has secondary events, the Shot Put and Discus. In the shot put event, he has held a personal best record of 17.88m, which was set in July 2014 and will continue to be above Chatchawal Polyiams' SEA Games record of 17.74m, at least until June this year. Stuart's displays undoubtedly place the Philippines in a good stead to clinch a shot put gold medal.
