After introducing #heartstrong, meditation, Tai Bundit has food for thought for PH players

HE has introduced the 'heart strong' mentality that spelled success for the Ateneo Lady Eagles and started a trend with the meditation sessions he makes his players do in between sets and during breaks.

Now Tai Bundit has one more food for thought for volleyball players.

Nope, it had nothing to do with Thai food. Instead the popular coach of the Lady Eagles and the national team is urging Filipino players to embrace 'eating healthy' for a clean body.

The Thai coach, who steered Ateneo Lady Eagles to their first UAAP title in 2014 and a rare season sweep this season, has even included yogurt in the post-practice meal of the Philippine team bound for the Southeast Asian Games.

Asked about his latest advocacy, Bundit, the well-loved assistant to head coach Roger Gorayeb, shared to Spin.ph that it is essential for players to eat healthy food and eliminate toxins.

"You need to be clean, you need to be healthy," said Bundit in halting English while handing each player a pack of yogurt. "(It's) important for players to be clean from the inside."

According to m.webmd.com, here are the benefits of eating yogurt: "First off, let us not forget that yogurt comes from milk. So yogurt eaters will get a dose of animal protein (about 9 grams per 6-ounce serving), plus several other nutrients found in dairy foods, like calcium, vitamin B-2, vitamin B-12, potassium, and magnesium."

"But one of the words we're hearing more and more of regarding yogurt is "probiotics." Probiotics are "friendly bacteria" that are naturally present in the digestive system. Live strains of these "good bacteria" are also found in many yogurt products. While more research needs to be done, there's some evidence that some strains of probiotics can help boost the immune system and promote a healthy digestive tract."

Aside from pushing for healthy eating, Bundit did his usual role as Gorayeb's top assistant in team practice on Tuesday, which was marked by a perfect attendance after the cancellation of Monday traning due to the unavailability of some of the players.

Alyssa Valdez, Rachel Anne Daquis, Jaja Santiago, Bea De Leon, Rhea Dimaculangan, Jovelyn Gonzaga, Aby Maraño, Jia Morado, Maika Ortiz, Dindin Santiago-Manabat,  Gretcel Soltones and Denden Lazaro are all present at the Blue Eagle gym in Ateneo.

"Ayan kumpleto kami ngayon," said Gorayeb, obviously happy with the turnout. "Kahapon kasi kokonti lang ang players."
