Three young Filipina boxers will be vying for honors in the prestigious 2015 AIBA (International Boxing Association) World Youth and Junior Women’s Boxing Championships in Taipei City, Taiwan.
Sarah Mag-usara, Judelyn Casin and Jenie Miranda will represent the country in the tournament participated by more than 100 boxers from 50 countries.
Mag-usara faces Ratchanok Auntakhob of Thailand in the women’s youth bantamweight division (54 kilograms) while Casin battles Nyamsuren Erdenebat of Mongolia in the women’s youth flyweight class (51 kgs.)
Miranda earned an opening round bye. She will fight the winner between Yuliia Demianenko of Ukraine and Rasmika Pathirannehelage of Sri Lanka in the first round.
Barcelona Olympics bronze medalist Roel Velasco and World Women’s Championship bronze winner Mitchel Martinez are coaching the team with delegation head and national senior’s team head coach Pat Gaspi.
The Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines is fresh from one-gold, one-silver, one-bronze showing in the 2015 President’s Cup held in Palembang, Indonesia with female boxer Nesthy Petecio winning the lone mint in the bantamweight division.
Mario Fernandez (men’s bantamweight) was the silver winner and Joel Bacho (men’s light welterweight) got the bronze.
Former junior world champion Eumir Felix Marcial also got silver in the men’s welterweight class (69 kgs) in the 2015 Thailand Invitational International Boxing Tournament in Pattaya.
