Jerry Belibestre bags lone medal for the Philippines in Asian meet, qualifies to the World Youth Championships

Western Visayas' Jose Jerry Belibestre bagged Philippines' only medal in the recently concluded 1st ASIAN Youth Athletics Championship in Doha Qatar.

Jerry prevailed in the Long Jump event with a distance of 7.26m, surpassing the 7.25m standard to qualify for the World Youth Championships.

Korea's Kim Youngbin captured the gold in the said event with distance of 7.49m while Yugo Sakain of Japan settled with silver after leaping 7.31 meters.

China led the medal tally with a total of 15 golds, 11 silvers and 5 bronzes.

Philippines ranked 24th overall and 5th among Southeast Asian countries.
