SINGAPORE — A total of 232 athletes and officials composing the bulk of the Philippine delegation, arrive on Thursday in time for Friday’s opening ceremony of the 28th Southeast Asian Games.
Flag bearer Alyssa Valdez, former world champions Efren ‘Bata’ Reyes and Rubilen Amit, and Southeast Asia long jump queen Marestella Torres are among the Filipino athletes arriving on Thursday.
The Philippines is fielding a total of 464 athletes in the meet.
Athletes from boxing, judo, petanque, rugby sevens, sepak takraw, shooting, softball, lawn tennis, triathlon, and wushu are also taking the same the Singapore Airlines flight that will bring the athletes in the Lion City.
Aside from athletics and billiards and snooker, also arriving are the teams from boxing, judo, petanque, rugby sevens, sepak takraw, shooting, softball, lawn tennis, triathlon and wushu.
The 55,000-seater National Stadium will host the opening ceremony with Minister for Culture, Community, and Youth Lawrence Wong telling Channel News Asia last week that the rites will be "spectacular."
