THERE'S still a chance reserved player Aiza Maizo-Pontillas will play in the 28th Southeast Asian Games in Singapore.
The former University of Santo Tomas stalwart, who also acts as assistant to coach Roger Gorayeb, could see action for the Philippine women’s team if Gretcel Soltones will not be able to play due to an injured right shoulder.
“Ayan si Aiza baka makalaro pa 'yan kung di puwede si Gretcel,” said Gorayeb after the team's final practice on Wednesday night at the Blue Eagle gym in Ateneo.
“Ready naman 'yan si Aiza anytime,” added the veteran mentor.
When Spin.ph caught up with her, Soltones admitted she can still hit spikes but not as hard as she used to.
“Nakakapalo naman po ako pero hindi bongga,” said the San Sebastian College ace hitter.
Soltones and Maizo-Pontillas will join skipper Jovelyn Gonzaga, Alyssa Valdez, Rachel Anne Daquis, Jaja Santiago, Dindin Santiago-Manabat, Aby Maraño, Maika Ortiz, Rhea Dimaculangan, Jia Morado, Bea de Leon, and Denden Lazaro as the national team makes its return appearance in the SEA Games after a decade of absence.
