THE Philippine women’s volleyball team that competed in the last Southeast Asian Games has been kept intact for the VTV International Women's Volleyball Cup later this month in Vietnam.
The same team captained by Jovelyn Gonzaga in the SEA Games in Singapore will be seeing action from July 25 to August 1 in Bac Lieu, with Thailand's Anusorn Bundit as coach.
Alyssa Valdez, Rachel Anne Daquis and Aby Marano head the lineup which Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas, Inc. submitted after confirming the country's participation in one of the most competitive invitational volleyball tournaments in Asia, where club and national teams from Europe, United States and Australia are also competing.
The other members of the team are Santiago sisters Dindin and Jaja, Rhea Dimaculangan, Maika Ortiz, Jia Morado, Bea de Leon, Gretcel Soltones and Denden Lazaro.
LVPI president Joey Romasanta said he has requested for financial assistance from the Philippine Sports Commission (PCS) because the event organizers will shoulder only the food and accommodation of the participating teams.
In his letter of request sent to the PSC on Wednesday, Romasanta asked for training equipment and competition uniforms for the 12-woman squad.
“We ironed out everything during our board meeting last Tuesday and we formally made a request to the PSC for funding," said Romasanta.
The Philippines was invited following a respectable performance in the Asian Under-23 Women's Championship on Manila and the 28th SEA Games in Singapore.

Philippine Super Liga president Tats Suzara also played a big hand in the invitation as the long-time Filipino volleyball officials serves as development commission officer of the FIVB, the world governing body for the sport.
