Blu Boys continue losing skid

THE men's national softball team, the RP Blu Boys, suffered its fifth loss against Argentina, 7-0, in the 14th men's World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) men's World Softball Championships in Saskatoon, Canada yesterday.

Argentina blanked Philippines and extended the Filipinos' losing skid to four games. The men's Philippine team lost to Great Britain, 10-2, on June 30; bowed to New Zealand, 9-2, on June 29; faltered against Guatemala, 4-0, on June 28 and fell short against Czech Republic, 5-12, on June 26. The RP Blu Boys logged a single win with a forfeiture against Indonesian team last June 26.

With one game left in the elimination, the RP Blu Boys are in the near bottom of the standing in the Pool A with a 1-5 win-loss card. The host team Canada is leading Pool A with an unblemished 6-0 slate, followed by Czech Republic (5-1), Argentina (4-2), New Zealand (4-2), Great Britain (3-3) and Guatemala (2-5).

In the pool B, countries Australia, Dominican Republic and Venezuela all have 5-1 cards, while Japan and the US are tied with 3-3. They are followed by Mexico (2-4), Denmark (1-5) and Netherlands (0-6).

The Philippines is tasked to slug it out against host Canada today for its last game in the preliminary round.
