THE Philippines beat Indonesia on its home turf, 10-0, in seven innings on Friday to rule the East Asia Baseball Cup in Jakarta.
The Filipino batters also qualified for the 27th Asia Baseball Championship in September to be held in Taichung, Taiwan against world powers Japan, Korea, and Chinese Taipei, as well as China and Pakistan.
The Philippines beat Hong Kong (4-2), Thailand (10-1), Sri Lanka (2-1), Singapore (4-0), and Indonesia (9-1) in the preliminaries to clinch a finals berth.
Paolo Macasaet was named Most Valuable Player, while Adriene Bernardo was awarded Most Outstanding Defensive Player of the tournament.
